Coputers In Modern Society Essay Example For Students

Coputers In Modern Society Essay Coputers In Modern SocietyLooking around at daily life, I noticed a pattern of computer orienteddevices that make life easier and allow us to be lazier. These devices are inmost daily activities ranging from waking up to an alarm clock that iscomputerized to watching the news before going to bed on a computerizedtelevision. All of these computerized facets of our society help to increaseour daily productivity and help us to do whatever it is we need to accomplish inthe day. The computer age is upon us and it will continue to grow in influenceuntil society revolves around it daily without need for improvement. In personal computers, the industry has began to create faster machinesthat can store much more information. For speed, the internal microprocessorhas been tweaked to perform at high rates of speed. One such microprocessor isthe Intel Pentium chip that is the fastest commercial microprocessor on themarket. In addition to internal speed and to allow faster hook- up to theInternet, faster telephone lines, most notably the fiber optic lines, have beenadded, for an extra charge, to transfer data about 4 times faster thanconventional phone lines (about 28,000 bits per second has been quadrupled toabout 128,000 bits per second. As speed enhances, memory and storage space isneeded to hold excess information. EDO RAM is a new, faster memory module thathelps transfer RAM data twice as fast as normal RAM. For long term storage oflarge amounts of data, hard drives have been under a constant upgrade ofperformance, and it is not uncommon to find hard drives about 8-9 gigabytes onthe market. Along with technology, an ease of use factor has been instilled in themodern day PCs. The most notable ease of use enhancement is a GUI(GraphicalUser Interface), which allows the user to see a choice instead of reading aboutthe choice. This is accomplished by using pictures and windows to simplify thechoices. Windows 95 and the Macintosh OS both use GUI to simplify use. Anotherchange in technology has been in almost putting manufacturing of typewritersinto extinction. Offices are more and more turning to computers instead oftypewriters because the computers integrate many office tasks in one machine, most notably the use of word processors. With the use of word processors on acomputer comes the use of spell check which is only offered on a few typewriters. The most growing part of the computer-oriented world is the Internet. It allows users to send electronic mail (E-mail), faster and more convenientlythan conventional, or snail mail. In addition to text sent, the user may optto send a program or picture attached to the letter. In addition to electronicmail, the Internet is also used to give information on almost any topics. It isa tool now common in college research because it offers millions of sources andthere is no limit to finding information. It is not only a tool for research, but also a tool for business. Businesses use it to advertise and to try to sellitems on-line. These companies set up their own web sites and place the sitesaddresses in their television and radio ads. Business use is not limited toadvertising and selling, but also to sell and buy from other companies fasterthan conventional methods. Technology is all around us and there are many practical applications ofcomputer technology. For example, the government uses the superhighway toverify drivers licenses and Social Security numbers. The Internet is used bycongressional committees to conduct research related to their current problems. .u2d59ccf8e734fbb2ffc12be80d16fe7f , .u2d59ccf8e734fbb2ffc12be80d16fe7f .postImageUrl , .u2d59ccf8e734fbb2ffc12be80d16fe7f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u2d59ccf8e734fbb2ffc12be80d16fe7f , .u2d59ccf8e734fbb2ffc12be80d16fe7f:hover , .u2d59ccf8e734fbb2ffc12be80d16fe7f:visited , .u2d59ccf8e734fbb2ffc12be80d16fe7f:active { border:0!important; } .u2d59ccf8e734fbb2ffc12be80d16fe7f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u2d59ccf8e734fbb2ffc12be80d16fe7f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u2d59ccf8e734fbb2ffc12be80d16fe7f:active , .u2d59ccf8e734fbb2ffc12be80d16fe7f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u2d59ccf8e734fbb2ffc12be80d16fe7f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u2d59ccf8e734fbb2ffc12be80d16fe7f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u2d59ccf8e734fbb2ffc12be80d16fe7f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u2d59ccf8e734fbb2ffc12be80d16fe7f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u2d59ccf8e734fbb2ffc12be80d16fe7f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u2d59ccf8e734fbb2ffc12be80d16fe7f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u2d59ccf8e734fbb2ffc12be80d16fe7f .u2d59ccf8e734fbb2ffc12be80d16fe7f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u2d59ccf8e734fbb2ffc12be80d16fe7f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: A Story From America EssayTechnology is used in automobiles to calculate the right amount of gas to airmixture in fuel injected cars. In auto garages, the technology is used to alignthe wheels and to find electrical system problems. Another example is radio andtelevision, the two most important things in many lives. These devices wouldnot be able to do what they do without the help of mini-computers that decipherthe incoming signal. On the digitized radios and televisions, there arecomputers that control volume level. Banks are even installing technology intotheir operations by using Automated Teller Machines (ATMs). These machinestake the place of human tellers and proces s transactions faster with built inlogic control to prevent overwithdrawal. Even businesses use technology duringnon-business hours by having automated telephones that continue to do businesslong after the last person went home. They accomplish this by using prerecordedmessages and a
